09/11/2024|Global machine tool manufacturer commits to Bavaria as a business location

Groundbreaking ceremony for the DMG MORI European headquarters in Munich

The go-ahead has been given for the "Go Four It" business quarter: The ground-breaking ceremony on 10 September 2024 marked the start of construction for the future European headquarters of machine tool manufacturer DMG MORI.

The ceremony, which was organised by the developers RH Unternehmensgruppe and Competo Capital Partners, was attended by State Secretary Tobias Gotthardt from the Bavarian State Ministry of Economic Affairs, Regional Development and Energy, the City of Munich's Economic Affairs Officer Clemens Baumgärtner, the Japanese Consul General in Munich Kenichi Bessho and the General Director of JETRO Munich Jun Washizawa, among others.

“We are very pleased about the start of construction. As a global technology company, we are represented worldwide – but by choosing Munich as the location for our European headquarters, we are particularly emphasising our commitment to the European market and to Germany as a business location. The European headquarters will be a central hub for customers, partners, employees and young talent," says Dr Masahiko Mori, President of DMG MORI.

"The centrepiece of our European headquarters will be a 1,500 square metre showroom with high-tech machine tools and automation solutions. Our aim is to draw attention to mechanical engineering as a key industry. We bring technology to Munich and make it tangible. The excellent and close co-operation with the RH Unternehmensgruppe has made this possible," comments Irene Bader, Member of the Board at DMG MORI.

“DMG MORI is demonstrating a strong commitment to Bavaria as a business location and setting an example for German-Japanese cooperation. Together we will continue to promote Bavaria as a high-tech location,” said State Secretary Tobias Gotthardt of the Bavarian Ministry of Economic Affairs, Regional Development and Energy.

“I am proud to be able to keep companies like DMG MORI in Munich. The ‘D’ in DMG MORI goes back to the Deckel company, which has a long history in our city. Nothing works in Munich without the manufacturing industry,’ emphasises Clemens Baumgärtner, Economic Affairs Officer of the City of Munich.

Plenty of space for technology and exchange

In the north of Munich, close to the Olympia shopping centre, the "Go Four It" business district is being built with state-of-the-art standards and a future-oriented working environment. DMG MORI will be renting one of the innovative buildings on Hanauer Strasse with a floor area of 10,000 square metres from 2026. Thanks to its central location in Europe and excellent global flight connections, the Munich site is set to become a place for international exchange and meetings for the machine tool manufacturer.

A special feature is the showroom for latest technologies, which will be used for customer applications as well as for training courses and guided tours. Until the new building is completed, the Japanese-German technology leader will have office space in Parkstadt Schwabing, Munich.
